The importance of entrepreneurship skills to small business performance was the focus of research by academics at Hull University Business School.

Commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the study examined the skills associated with entrepreneurial success and the different ways development of these skills can be promoted within small businesses.

Professor Steve Johnson, said:

Our review confirms that it is possible to identify a set of skills that can be characterised as ‘entrepreneurship skills’ which are distinct from – although closely related to – accepted definitions of management and leadership skills.
