On Wednesday 14th June the official launch of the BIPC took place at Hull Central Library.

The evening started with a “Top 3 tips for Business” panel and guest speaker session chaired by Isabel Oswel from British Library.

The formal opening had speeches from:
Michelle Alford – Library Services director
Mitch Upfold – Managing director of Hull Culture & Leisure
Roly Keating – Chief Executive of The British Library
Andrew Reith – Engagement Manager at the IPO
Phil Glover – Growth Hub Manger at the Humber LEP

The centre will support entrepreneurs and innovators from that first spark of inspiration to successfully launching and growing a business. They will be holding workshops and events and offering advice on a whole host of subjects from setting up your business to protecting your intellectual property(IP). So whether you are looking to start, grow or run a business, BIPC can help.

Expert staff are at the BIPC to discuss your business idea in confidence and help you identify the most useful information and resources.

As a member of PATLIB UK and the national network of Business and IP Centres they also have access to a large network of skills and resources. Use the resources, tools, expertise and contacts to –

  • consider and research your competitors and suppliers
  • check whether your Intellectual Property is protected including –

Avention – Information on over 30 million public and private companies.

Cobra – Business factsheets and job profiles

Mintel – Market  research and reports covering a range of industries and sectors

British Standards Online – An online standards library giving access to 90,000 standards

Mintuk – Businesses searchable by criteria such as size location and industry sector

Intellectual Property Office – Information about protecting your invention, creation and products.

Staff are on hand to help you use these online tools if required.

Whatever stage your business is at these resources will prove very useful to you and are well worth a visit to explore what is available.
