The first ever Youth Market in Scunthorpe is taking place on Saturday 2 December for young entrepreneurs aged 16 to 30 to try out their own business idea.

Have you a got a great business idea but not sure where to start? Do you want to run your own business? Are you aged between 16 and 30? Book your place on the Youth Market.

You can sell everything from t-shirts to bread and everything else in between. Whatever your idea, the Youth Market is the place for you to try out running your own business.

The Youth Market will be in Scunthorpe town centre along the High Street from 9am to 4pm. A stall is £10 for the day.

If successful, the Youth Market will take place once a month in Scunthorpe town centre.

For young entrepreneurs who think running a business is for them and would like support, North Lincolnshire Council can provide free independent business advice and the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £1,000 via our partner UK Steel Enterprise. Their Business Team can provide more details on this.

The Youth Market will run alongside Small Business Saturday, which is also on Saturday 2 December.

The council will help to raise awareness of small retailers that offer a range of high-quality products and services, and encourage residents to buy local.

A competition will be taking place for visitors to participating small retailers in North Lincolnshire to win a voucher.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“The Youth Market is a brilliant idea as it gives young entrepreneurs a place to do business. If a young person has a business idea but doesn’t have the money to start up or doesn’t know where to start with running a business, having a market stall is the perfect place to start. They will be able to see if their idea works and find their footing for running a business.

“Any young entrepreneurs out there who have a business idea, I’d encourage you to give the Youth Market a go.

“There will be plenty of people out and about on Saturday 2 December doing their Christmas shopping so the Youth Market will get lots of passing trade.

“Scunthorpe town centre is the ideal location for the Youth Market as we are investing £60m to transform the area to create a vibrant and thriving place.  And with free parking all day on Saturdays people can stay in the town centre for as long as they like.”
