East Riding Council Business Services Team are running a series of workshops at various locations across the East Riding of Yorkshire. These workshops are for people who are looking to start a business or are already running a business in the area.

The following workshops will be taking place:

How to Write a Business Plan

A 3 hour workshop going through the basics of business planning and helping you start to develop some content for a plan for your business.

The workshop aims to help you understand the advantages of effective business planning, understand what content may be required in your business plan and gives an opportunity for you to start to develop some content under expert guidance.

Bookkeeping Basics

A 3 hour workshop going through the basics of record keeping, tax and national insurance contributions. This workshop is aimed at sole traders and partnerships only

The workshop aims to help you understand basic record keeping – what records need to be kept eg Income/Expenditure and a simple method to record them for tax purposes. It also looks at the tax cycle for self assessment purposes and self employed national insurance contributions.

Sales and Marketing

This three hour workshop provides a practical step by step approach to sales and marketing. It is aimed at those thinking of setting up in business or those who have already started.

The workshop is designed to help you identify your customers, understand your competitors and plan an effective marketing strategy for your start up business.

Social Media Basics

An overview of social media and online marketing for businesses with little or no current social media or online presence

The workshop will help you understand who your customers are and what social media platforms they are likely to use so you can maximise your time and efforts on these. An overview and discussion on the core social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram and a look at other online marketing options

These workshops are FREE to attend for residents of the East Riding of Yorkshire and also businesses based in the East Riding.
