Join other manufacturing and engineering businesses this October as the Hull & East Yorkshire Manufacturers Network takes a look at some of the employment and skills issues facing the sector.

Network members have expressed a strong interest in tackling employment and skills issues that they face with the support of the Network. This event has therefore been developed to help look at these employment & skills issues in more details, and in the context of the HEY region.

This event will therefore tackle three key objectives:

1) To raise awareness of the current funding and support available for workforce skills development and recruitment by manufacturing firms in Hull & East Yorkshire.

2) To provide employers with the opportunity to champion careers in the manufacturing sector, by working with schools and colleges

3) To establish a dialogue between employers and colleges/training providers with a view to improving the range and quality of apprenticeship provision for manufacturing in Hull & East Yorkshire.

The event agenda is as follows:

  • 3 to 3.05pm – Welcome & Introductions – Jon Brunton, HEY LEP
  • 3.05 to 3.20pm – An overview of the employment and skills work undertaken by the HEY LEP and its partners, including an overview of the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) via the Chamber of Commerce – Chris Howell, HEY LEP and a Chamber of Commerce representative
  • 3.20 to 3.40pm – An overview of the funding and support available for skills development, apprenticeship recruitment, use of apprenticeship levy, traineeships and T-Levels – Carl Southcoat, HEY LEP and Hull City Council Employment Hub representative.
  • 3.40 to 4pm – An overview of the Careers Hub and how employers can get involved with careers work in schools and colleges – Fiona Headridge, Humber Careers Hub
  • 4 to 4.10pm – Networking & Refreshments
  • 4.10 to 4.45pm – Training Provider Q&A: a discussion panel of local training providers will be on hand to take questions from employers about manufacturing training and apprentices. This panel will feature at least five colleges & training providers and will be chaired by Chris Howell of HEY LEP.
  • 4.50 to 5pm – Q&A session with all speakers, chaired by Jon Brunton, HEY LEP.

The event is free to attend and all manufacturing and engineering firms from Hull & East Yorkshire are welcome, however booking is required to manage numbers. Please note that that to foster a spirit of openness and mutual support at meetings of the network, this event is for representatives of manufacturing and engineering businesses only, and representatives of professional services (banks, investment funds, accountants, law firms) and consultancy firms will not be admitted.
