Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.

An apprentice will:

This toolkit supports businesses in navigating apprenticeship policy reforms and funding, including the apprenticeship levy. The toolkit signposts towards local and national resources and demonstrates how apprenticeship training can help businesses of any size and sector to fill their skills gaps and meet their growth aspirations. Levels of apprenticeship

Apprenticeships have equivalent educational levels.

Who can apply

You can apply for an apprenticeship while you’re still at school. To start one, you’ll need to be:

  • 16 or over
  • living in England
  • not in full-time education

At any one time there are up to 28,000 apprenticeship vacancies available online in a variety of careers and industries across England. Visit gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship.
You can search by keyword (job role, occupation type or apprenticeship level) and by location.
Once the right job comes up, you can simply register on the website and follow the step by step instructions to apply for the role.

apprenticeships, visit YouTube and search apprenticeships/NAS.

Not quite ready for an apprenticeship or job? You could try a traineeship with a local employer to gain valuable work experience and the opportunity to improve their English and Maths, if needed. Visit gov.uk/find-traineeship for more information or to apply for traineeship opportunities.

Pay and conditions

An apprentice is entitled to the National Minimum Wage. Check here for ehe current minimum wage rate.

They must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age.

Apprenticeship Service

SME’s can create an apprenticeship Service account which will allow them too:

  • set up apprenticeships and advertise them on Find an apprenticeship
  • set permissions for training providers to take actions on the SME’s behalf, minimising the admin, for example by reserving apprenticeship funding
  • choose quality training providers and select suitable end-point assessment organisations
  • give real-time feedback on training, helping us to improve the quality of apprenticeships
  • reserve apprenticeship funding as soon as it becomes available

Hours apprentices are paid for

Apprentices  must be paid for:

  • normal working hours (minimum 30 hours per week)
  • training that’s part of the apprenticeship (usually one day per week)

Holidays

At least 20 days paid holiday per year, plus bank holidays.
