Apply for a duplicate tax disc

    Fill in a V20 ‘Application for duplicate tax disc’ form and take it to your nearest Post Office that issues duplicate tax discs.

    You must replace your tax disc if it’s been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed – or you can’t read it because it’s faded.

    If you’re the registered keeper

    Go to your nearest Post Office with:

    If you don’t have the V5C registration certificate or you’re not the registered keeper

    Send one of the following to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1DD:

    You’ll then be sent a new V5C – once you’ve got it take it to your nearest Post Office with:

    • the completed V20 form
    • £7 fee (if needed)
    • the original tax disc if you still have it

    When you don’t need to pay the fee

    You don’t need to pay the £7 fee if:

    • the vehicle is exempt from paying vehicle tax
    • the tax disc was sent by the DVLA and has got lost in the post
    • the tax disc can’t be read or the colour has faded
    • a V14 ‘Application for a refund of vehicle tax’ has been rejected by the DVLA
