Check if you can get legal aid

Find out if you're entitled to legal aid

Legal aid could help pay for legal advice, family mediation or representation in court or at a tribunal.

You’ll be asked general questions about your legal problem and your financial situation.

You’ll only get guidance on whether or not you can get legal aid – you won’t get a final decision.

You can only check for non-criminal (‘civil’) cases. If you’ve been charged with a crime, ask your solicitor or barrister if you are able to get legal aid.

If you’re under 18, your eligibility for legal aid might depend on your parents’ or guardians’ income, depending on your problem.
