Register as a trainer booker to book driving tests
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) have merged to form the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
Register with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) so you can book certain types of theory and practical driving tests more easily.
There are 2 ways you can register with DVSA:
- as a business
- as a trainer booker
The option you choose will depend on the type of tests you want to book.
Register as a business
When you register as a business:
- you can book any type of practical test
- you can give your payment details once so you donÂt have to give them each time you book
- you must give your pupil’s details when you book the test
- you can manage your availability for driving tests if youÂre an approved driving instructor (ADI)
How to register as a business
Register as a business with DVSA – youÂll get a business ID and an email with an activation code called a ÂDAT codeÂ.
Register as an Âorganisation on the Government Gateway – you canÂt use your Âindividual Government Gateway account.
Go to the Government Gateway and choose ÂEnter the Government GatewayÂ.
Log in with the Government Gateway user ID and password you set up in step 3.
Choose Âpractical test online business service from the list.
Enter your DAT code, business ID and postcode.
Use the online Âstep-by-step wizard to finish setting up your account.
Register as a trainer booker
When you register as a trainer booker:
- you can book and pay for test slots in advance without giving your pupilÂs details until nearer the test date
- you donÂt have to give your payment details each time you book test slots
You can trainer book the tests shown in the table.

YouÂll be able to trainer book all 4 parts of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence initial qualification for lorry and bus drivers.

Use the DVSA practical test business service to sign the trainer booker agreements for practical tests.
Download the theory test application form and send it to DVSA if you also want to trainer book theory tests.
