Defence spending with UK industry by the Ministry of Defence has topped £25 billion for the first time, official statistics have revealed.
Official breakdowns show increases in almost all areas and nations

Figures show more than 200,000 jobs are supported through the UK’s defence industry
The 2022/23 statistics, published today, detail the money spent by the MOD with UK defence companies. The breadth of spending highlights the government’s commitment to continually improving the defence

The Hull and East Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Workforce Development Business Adviser has worked on behalf of Bell4business which is a local SME company that offers outsourced office services. The HEY LEP supported Bell4business with their business growth and development requirements. Thereby enabling an existing employee to upskill as a professional development opportunity through undertaking the Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship training. This exiting opportunity was funded through the reinvestment of local unspent apprenticeship levy funds that was kindly donated
How Hull City Council supports Whoopie Bakery
Whoopie Bakery is just one of lots of businesses in Hull receiving grants and support from Hull City Council.
Kate Cunnah, from Whoopie Bakery, spoke about how they have used grants to develop and grow their business:
“We sell cakes that are made of sponge. They’re a 100 year old dessert tradition from the US and have either a cheesecake or marshmallow filling and we’ve been running for a year now.

The team at Hull & East Riding Made Smarter team have put together a programme of workshops aimed specifically at the needs of the manufacturing sector – arising from meetings with existing clients on the programme who are already access support and grants for project. These events are free and only open to manufacturers – we are keeping delegate numbers down to smaller numbers therefore allowing the workshops to provide a more practical session and opportunities to develop bespoke action

More than £4m Skills Bootcamps funding to help advance careers and boost skills
Skills Bootcamps will continue in Hull and East Yorkshire thanks to a £4.3 million funding boost from government to support 1,603 individuals across different sectors.
Hull Training and Adult Education (HTAE), which is leading and managing the programme, will work with employers and training providers to support local people to train up to better jobs in growing business sectors such as digital, transport and green skills.
