The Great British High Street Competition is a Government and business-led initiative which celebrates our nation’s much-loved high streets. Now in its third year, it showcases the people, businesses and partnerships that are putting their high street at the heart of their communities.
The 2015 Competition was a huge success. Over 230 high streets took part and the campaign to find the winners made a huge dent in the public consciousness, with over 200,000 votes cast for the finalists. This year,
Government gives UK businesses £57m boost to bring ideas to market
A new funding boost of £57.5 million has been announced for the UK’s energy and infrastructure, biomedical and quantum technology sectors.
The best ideas will compete for funding to develop new sustainable energy and transport solutions, bring new healthcare advancements to market and drive forward commercial advances in quantum technology (used in electronic devices such as clocks and computers).

Yorkshire and Humber lawyers asked to help competition law awareness
Yorkshire and Humber-based lawyers are being asked to help promote awareness of new competition law compliance materials to business clients.
Around 120 law firms headquartered in Yorkshire and the Humber will be contacted by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), and encouraged to share the CMA’s easy-to-use competition law information with their small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) clients.
The information is intended to help SMEs recognise anti-competitive practices, comply with competition law and report suspicions of illegal anti-competitive activity.

Investments on track to add £1.42bn to Humber economy by end of Parliament
Projects and programmes invested in by the Humber LEP and delivered by partners are on track to add £1.42bn to the Humber economy by the end of 2019/20 – a return of £5 GVA benefit for every £1 invested.
As part of this 12,050 gross FTE jobs will be created, 600 safeguarded and 62,228 properties will have reduced flood risk.
