Boost for small businesses as government launches R&D plan
The Financial Secretary visited London-based footwear specialist Vivobarefoot to launch the plan and to see first-hand how the government’s R&D tax relief has helped the small business invest in developing world-class products.
In a major boost for pioneering small businesses, the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, On Wednesday 28 October launched a new plan outlining how government will make it easier for small businesses investing in research and development to claim tax relief.

First Steps Enterprise Fund
First Steps Enterprise Fund
A new fund is offering loan-grant(90% loan 10% grant) packages to charities and social enterprises working in communities in England to help them grow their services and become more sustainable.
You can apply for up to £30,000 and eligible organisations will have been operating for longer than one year.
It is a pilot partnership between Asda Foundation and the Social Investment Business Foundation.
Deadline is noon Friday 11 December 2015.

Youth Enterprise Bank – Deadline

The deadline for the next round of the Youth Enterprise Bank www.youthenterprise.co.uk is 20th November 2015. The youth enterprise bank supports enterprising young people aged 13 to 21 with a grant and an access to a mentor that live in Hull and East Riding or in exceptional circumstances that lived in Hull aged up to 18 and still have a connection with the City.

Humber LEP to host over-50s symposium to tackle labour market issues
The Humber LEP in partnership with DWP and Chapter3 is hosting a discussion event aimed at recruiters and HR professionals on how to tackle a serious issue facing to the Humber labour market.
After discussion on the Department for Work and Pension’s Fuller Working Lives Framework at the Humber LEP’s Employment and Skills Board and a conversation with the LEP’s Recruiters Forum it was decided to host an event that would look at addressing the gaps in employment for older people.

Entrepreneurial Skill Set Identified
The importance of entrepreneurship skills to small business performance was the focus of research by academics at Hull University Business School.
Commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the study examined the skills associated with entrepreneurial success and the different ways development of these skills can be promoted within small businesses.
